Meet Jay Leno’s Favorite Car of all Time, the 1972 Mercedes-Benz 600

TV personality Jay Leno owns hundreds and hundreds of cars, and while he’s working on ushering many of them into the spotlight of his “Jay Leno’s Garage” video series, he’s finally graced us with the vehicle of his dreams — his favorite car.

Leno worked at a Mercedes-Benz dealership when he was a kid, and loved when he had the opportunity to deliver one of these luxurious monstrosities across the country. It’s practically a limousine in length, most often driven by vicious dictators and it was the most expensive car on the market at its debut — it’s the 1972 Mercedes-Benz 600.

As Leno explains, this four-door sedan was built without any regard for cost, powering all of its amenities with a very complex hydraulic system — from the windows and sunroof to the seats and trunk. Leno own the short-wheel-based version and had it modified with a supercharger to make the only 600 Kompressor in existence.
