2014 Mercedes-Benz M-Class earns Top Safety Pick+ Award from IIHS

October 10th, 2013 by

As you’ve likely gathered from the activity on our blog here at Mercedes-Benz of Henderson, the future is looking brighter than ever for our favorite automaker. Then again, there’s something to be said for reveling in the present. Because now that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is making its way to our dealership, a new dawn of safety is being ushered in.

As is custom in our industry, the 2014 M-Class recently made its way to the automotive experts at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). From there, it was put through a series of tests to determine how this SUV protects its passengers in the event of a collision. The 2014 M-Class was held to the same rigorous standards as every new vehicle on the market where only a select few each year manage to drive off with top honors.

So when all was said and done and we learned that the 2014 M-Class earned a Top Safety Pick+ award, we couldn’t have been prouder of this new addition to our lineup. As for how it achieved such an honor, we’ll let the experts to the explaining:

“Mercedes reinforced the SUV’s door sills to improve occupant protection in small overlap front crashes for models built after August 2013,” say the member of the IIHS in an official press release. “In the small overlap front test, the driver’s space was maintained reasonably well. The dummy’s head made good contact with the front airbag, which stayed in position during the crash. The side curtain airbag deployed and had sufficient forward coverage.”1

If you’d like to learn more, we’d be happy to fill you in at our dealership here in Henderson, NV, just down the way from Las Vegas. Or if you’d like to gain a base of comparison before next year’s model rolls into our showroom, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class awaits you today.
