If the light illuminated on your dashboard is a check engine light, there could be a number of reasons that causes this warning. The check engine light icon looks like a small engine and if you ignore the light, it could result in loss of fuel economy, reduced safety, and even costly repairs.
Even if you don’t notice any issues as you’re driving in Boulder City with a check engine light, it’s still a good idea to have the issue addressed. But, what causes a check engine light to come on in the first place? There are multiple issues that can trigger a check engine light but here are the most common ones:
Oxygen Sensor Problem: Oxygen sensors or O2 sensors are part of the exhaust system and it measures the amount of burned oxygen in your exhaust. A failing O2 sensor can cause excessive fuel consumption./li>
Loose, Missing, or Damaged Gas Cap: While it may seem like a simple piece of equipment, your gas cap helps maintain the pressure and venting of the gasoline fumes in your fuel system. If your gas cap is loose, missing, or damaged, Fuel can be lost through evaporation.
Faulty Catalytic Converter: The catalytic converter changes carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. Without it, your vehicle will fail its emissions test, run at a higher temperature, and suffer from reduced performance and fuel economy.
Faulty Mass Airflow Sensor: Your mass airflow (MAF) sensor tracks the amount of air entering your engine and determines how much fuel you need. A faulty MAF sensor can damage key engine components, reduce performance, and lower efficiency.
Fault Spark Plugs/Plug Wires: Responsible for igniting the air/fuel mixture, spark plugs and plug wires, if damaged can lead to misfires and stalling.
Common Mercedes-Benz Dashboard Symbols & Meanings
