Mercedes-Benz SL-Class for 2013 Shows off in Detroit

The first time the Mercedes-Benz SL luxury sports car was released to the auto market was in 1952. Now for the 2013 models year, the SL-Class has a leaner and meaner looking body.

The official debut of the new SL was in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show. New features for the 2013 model include a trim aluminum body which weighs roughly 275 pounds less than the 2011 model-year SL. Thomas Rudlaff, the Mercedes-Benz engineer that takes the credit for the super-lightweight body, says that there is a significant drop in weight like a large passenger getting out of the car.

How do these changes effect drivers? The drop in weight is going to allow for a more heart-racing speed with better fuel economy for the sports car. Also, the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class shell is just a piece of the puzzle. There are many more features that the new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL has.

Some of the other features added to the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class include, two-inches in length and two-point-four-inches in width for a more road-hugging stance, two new engine options, improved horsepower and torque, improved fuel economy, automatic stop-start technology, choice of two suspension systems, available Active Body Control System, choice of retractable hardtops and hands-free access to the trunk.
