Trying to find and latch your seat belt buckle can be the most tedious task when getting in a car. There are so many people who simply don't bother buckling their seat belt altogether. Not wearing your seat belt can be one of the deadliest decisions a person can make when driving or riding in a car. Mercedes-Benz has developed active seat belt buckles in an effort to help drivers and passengers buckle up with ease.
The new buckles will be active in the new Mercedes-Benz technology, appearing from the car's upholstery when the rear doors are opened. Mercedes-Benz has engineered the seat belt buckles to appear and disappear using small electric motors that are built into the cars interior. The motors raise the buckle up by roughly two-and-a-half inches. Mercedes-Benz active seat belt buckles also comes equipped with illuminated slots designed to make it easier to see them in the dark.
Ease of use is only one of the benefits Mercedes-Benz active seat belt buckles promise to provide future owners. The buckles are also complete with reverse belt tensioning of up to three-point-one inches when vehicles sense a potential accident.
Thinking even one more step further, Mercedes-Benz is looking into ways to make unbuckling easier as well. Their goal is to create a system allowing crash and accident victims to be freed from their belts and the vehicle as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Mercedes-Benz hopes to have this new safety technology available to buyers and their passengers soon. In the meantime, you can drive with confidence knowing that a pyrotechnic belt tensioning system has been a standard feature in Mercedes-Benz models for years.
